Anti-vaxxer NRL star Sione Katoa tells why he refuses to get flu shot

por Norman Demoss (2021-01-26)

Anti-vaxxer footy star Sione Katoa has defended his refusal to get the flu shot - claiming he had seen first-hand the negative health impact of vaccinations.

Katoa, 25, is among up to 20 players across the NRL who have so far refused to be vaccinated under the league's plans to restart the season on May 28 amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Medical evidence overwhelmingly shows though not vaccinating children is not only risky to their own health - but to the entire community - with the procedure vital to reducing the spread of diseases.

On Friday, the Gold Coast Titans confirmed Cartwright and his teammate Brian Kelly had been stood down following talks between the club and the Queensland government.

Katoa on Sunday evening said he used to be 'very pro-vaccination' before he witnessed two cases of his family and friends suffering adverse effects from vaccines.

Katoa said his eldest son Chase was 'constantly sick after his shots, resulting in many trips to the hospital and the doctor's office'. He also claimed a friend's dad died after having a flu shot

He said after consulting with medical professionals he refuses to vaccinate any of his three children - and shared footage of his kids spending time together.

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs star also jumped to the defence of Cartwright - describing him as one of his 'closest mates' - and hit out at mainstream media 'constantly shaming and bullying NRL players' on the issue of vaccinations.

'We acknowledge the flu shot has the ability to result in serious adverse reactions and has also claimed lives,' Katoa wrote on Instagram.

'In 2018, the step father of a friend sadly passed away within 48 hours of his flu shot. He was an adult man, with no underlying health conditions.'

Katoa also spoke of how his eldest son Chase was 'constantly sick after his shots, resulting in many trips to the hospital and the doctor's office'.

Diseases like tetanus, diphtheria and whooping cough have been almost wiped out though since vaccination campaigns in the 1960s and 1970s.

Jade Grant (pictured left with Katoa and her children) also offered her support for the stood-down Cartwright last week

'Our son was helpless and never getting any better, so we reached out for a second opinion which lead us down the path of holistic health,' Katoa said.

'We stand 유로247코드 for FREEDOM OF CHOICE and what we choose should not be made a public matter and cause outrage in the media and community.'

Katoa's partner Jade Grant also offered her support for Cartwright last week, saying she was 'always standing with you'.

The vaccination is part of the league's strict biosecurity protocol - mandated to all 480 players across the NRL's 16 clubs.
