Durban in South Africa may not be the nation's number one tourist destination, but that certainly does not mean that there isn't plenty to see and do here. The city itself is a great base for those looking for an adventurous South African break, as its location in the province of KwaZulu-Natal puts it in the middle of many natural and cultural sights and experiences.

One of the biggest natural attractions in South Africa is Kruger National Park, which is the largest South African game reserve and one which is a must-visitdestination for anyone visiting the country. Covering almost 20,000 square kilometres, this park is home to species such as buffalo, rhinoceros, lions, leopards, giraffes, zebra, elephants, hippopotamuses and hyena.

With 4x4 trails, guided safari tours and plenty of accommodation options, this is our first recommendation for anyone visiting Durban. Although 800km away from the city, Kruger National Park is relatively close at one hour away on an internal flight, which will arrive at Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport.

For the more adventurous, however, travelling to this wildlife haven can also be done by investing in debit card or cash car hire in Durban. Travellers who settle on this option need to account forapproximately two days for the journey in either direction, with one of the most popular routes being through Swaziland.

For those who are not so keen on travelling either by road or plane to Kruger National Park, there are plenty of closer options for the adventurous holidaymaker. One of these is the Phinda Private Game Reserve, which is home to the "Big Five" - the African lion, African elephant, Cape buffalo, White or Black rhinoceros and the African leopard.

In addition to this, visitors also get the chance to spy even rarer species, along with a captivating variety of vegetation and Africanlandscape. This park also boasts highly-endangered sea turtles, as well as over 400 different bird species. Phinda is only three hours' drive by cash car hire from Durban, and is much closer than Kruger National Park.

Water lovers can easily find plenty to do near Durban, as this coastalarea boasts a variety of water sports to try and a number of marinereserves to explore. One place that comeshighlyrecommended to anyone visiting the region is Rocktail Camp, which offers one of the best spots in the world for scuba diving and snorkelling.

Around four hours' drive from Durban, car rental is one of the best ways to reach this area, with plenty of fantasticaccommodation at Rocktail Bay for a night or a couple of nights' stay. As well as spotting some fantastic marine life, there are also boat tours out onto the Indian Ocean in order to watch whale sharks, dolphins, manta rays and endangered sea turtles.

For those that like to keep their feet on the ground and prefer a shorter drive away from the city, investing in cash car hire from Durban can take you just a fewkilometres away to the Umhlanga Lagoon Nature Reserve, which consists of a wetland and a coastal and dune forest.

This reserve is fantastic for hikers, with the varied landscapes playing host to a wide variety of animals, birds and plants. With some of the trees in the coastal forest being over five hundred years old, and outing to this location is not only ideal for stretching the legs but also discovering some of the natural gems that South Africa has to offer.

From game and marine reserves to hiking trails, The Best Airport Black Car Service close to me area around Durban offers a wide range of natural spots of beauty that are sure to thrill any traveller. Many are in easy reach for anyone renting a vehicle, and some can be travelled to in super-quick time by aeroplane too.
